1 : 1Netbooks, Batteries etal..

Well ive picked up the netbook again.I need something really portable,
that I can throw in the bag. I could really do with a pad with 10 hours
battery life, But they are a lot of money, which I cant spare at the
moment. So make do...

Ive bought a XXXXX battery for the netbook, which should give me about
10 hours, Its absolutely massive, weighs XXXX and the charge time is
xxxx so outside the two hours per day that we use for charging the
boat batteries and all portable chargable devices, like laptops.
But it should do for the 3 to 4 days im on Molly.

Apart from the weight It really improves the ergonomics, the large
battery acts as a stand for the net book, making it the ideal angle for
 me to type..

Incidently the day after i placed the order for the netbook, The Battery
in the Dell flaged up an iminant failure. And ive just replaced 3 X 100
amp hour batteries on Molly.. Argggg

The one thing that is not mentioned in our rush towards electric transportation.

"Batteries have a relatively short life."

A typical Lithium Ion battery has 1000 cycles, so if you charge it
every day. That means that battery is gonna last three years. Which is
about right from my observations, Its a major issue for boaters.

PolyPlus: Water Batteries Could Be Comin’ Soon (via GigaOM)

Now this is an important technology, batteries as they stand now are only lasting 2 to 3 years, Which is a thousand cycles..

PolyPlus: Water Batteries Could Be Comin' Soon Batteries made of lithium and seawater (or just plain tap water for that matter) could be on their way to a marine market near you. That's courtesy of a technology made by a 11-year-old company called PolyPlus and various partnerships, which hails out of Lawrence Berkeley Labs and has a grant from the Department of Energy's high risk, early-stage ARPA-E program. At the annual ARPA-E Summit this week, PolyPlus was highlighted as a potential game-c … Read More
